Some of my favorite features of IntelliJ are powerful refactoring tools and powerful code navigation tools, and I'd imagine Rider has those too.īut again, I'm just guessing because I've never used Rider. So if Rider is anything like it, I imagine it's probably better than Visual Studio. IntelliJ is by far the best IDE I've ever used. Also tweaked some File and Registry Detection rules. For some unknown reason, the Windows and Mac versions are different from one another in a lot of ways. The Windows version has been pretty decent. The Mac version in particular has a lot of issues especially with Unity workflows. C++, C, and assembly language development tools and libraries are available as part of Visual Studio on Windows. It's definitely a lot better than MonoDevelop was. I have never used Rider but I have a long history of using another JetBrains product, IntelliJ, in a professional setting for around 8 years.I've only ever used Visual Studio for Unity.
The comparison is here but basically the only difference is that you can't use Visual Studio 2019 for commercial purposes for. I can't say I'm the best person to give an opinion but my experience is this: That being said, Visual Studio Community 2019 is now a fully featured version and the only reason you'd need Professional or Enterprise is licensing and support reasons, which you probably don't need as a student.
